WHO
ERIC BROEGE, Co-owner & Wine Director
CAROLYN KEMP, Co-owner & Manager
Since January 2000, Eric Broege and Carolyn Kemp have been building VINTAGES Adventures in Wine into the Boston area’s best wine shop. Early on, husband and wife traveled to Italy for the annual wine fair, Vinitaly; their passion for Italian wine was ignited, and they never looked back. At the same time, Eric was also visiting cellars in France and Spain seeking out original, authentic wines. During his trips, Eric often discovers superb, small-production wines and cellar-aged wines that are not available in our market. These gems are brought just for us as VINTAGES EXCLUSIVES.
In 2008, VINTAGES opened a second shop, Enoteca VINTAGES, in Belmont Center devoted to authentic wines of originality and substance primarily from Europe; the next chapter has begun!

What makes VINTAGES a compelling wine destination?
First, and most important, the wine selection. Hand-picked by wine director Eric Broege, VINTAGES’ Italian wine selection is unparalleled. Featuring top producers in every region, as well as little-known artisan wineries and older vintages of select Barbarescos and Barolos, the “wall of Italy” in the Belmont shop is a region-by-region tour of the Italy’s extensive wine heritage.
Further, VINTAGES offers an outstanding selection of Burgundy, Bordeaux, and Rhone wines, as well as “grower-maker” Champagnes. Spain is well-represented with top producers from Priorat, Rioja, Ribera del Duero, as well as Bierzo, Monsant, Mentrida, and other emerging regions.
Second, the wine expertise of VINTAGES owner and wine director, Eric Broege. Eric was one of only a handful of U.S. retailers invited in 2007 & 2008 to the Alba Wine Exhibition in Piedmont, Italy. This prestigious event is designed for wine journalists to taste the new releases of Barolo, Barbaresco, and other wines, with access to nearly all the major wineries in the region. It is a distinct honor to be invited and an acknowledgement of Broege’s extensive knowledge of these wines. Traveling to Italy several times a year, as well as regular visits to France, promote that direct connection with producers and the land that most merchants never establish.
What sets us apart from other wine shops?
The “wine experience” we offer to our customers. VINTAGES’ passion for great wine and new discoveries translates to exceptional wine tastings at our shops. Our wine dinners at area restaurants are legendary;
Last spring, VINTAGES hosted Roberto Conterno of the GIACOMO CONTERNO estate at an exclusive wine dinner for our customers at No. 9 Park in Boston.
We’ve hosted Claude Nicolay of CHANDON de BRIAILLES at Craigie Street Bistrot in Cambridge.
This January, VINTAGES held a Barbaresco Wine Fest featuring Aldo Vacca of PRODUTTORI del BARBARESCO. The main event was an Advanced Barbaresco Seminar at Stir, Barbara Lynch’s new culinary venue in Boston, at which Aldo presented 40 years of Barbaresco, tasting wines from 1967-2001.
Numerous Italian winemaker dinners at Oleana in Cambridge.
Part of the wine experience is learning about wine, why “place” matters, why differences between vintages may be something to highlight, not hide. The often fascinating stories behind the wine– vineyard, estate, and people. And most of important of all, what will you be eating tonight? Wine and food — from the everyday, to the ultimate– is at the heart of our passion.
From the reputable and rare, to the under-the-radar artisan, it’s at VINTAGES Adventures in wine.
